In a communication to all Parish Priests,Most Rev. Geoffrey Jarrett, Bishop of the Lismore Diocese, has launched an aid response for the victims of the Victorian bushfires. In his letter he wrote: “I am sure that at all Masses this coming weekend there will be special intentions included in the Prayer of the Faithful for all who have lost their lives in the Victorian bushfire catastrophe, and for a11 whose lives have been so grievously affected by the tragedy. Parishioners may be invited to contribute to a special collection at all Masses this weekend as a practical expression of help to be sent immediately from the Diocese of Lismore to the Archbishop of Melbourne. Archbishop Hart’s office is distributing this aid directly to people in the areas affected. • Please send the proceeds of this collection on Monday to our Diocesan Business Office for transmission to Melbourne. • Donations to the Bushfire Relief under $10.00 may be claimed by donors as income tax deductions without the evidence of a receipt. • Donations over $10.00 require a receipt for income tax purposes. Please submit to the DBO a properly recorded list of names and addresses of donors over $10.00 requiring receipts so that these can be forwarded to them. Tax deductibility will be given through the Bishop of Lismore’s Charitable Works Fund. Thanking you for your assistance, and with every good wish.”
