Archbishop Salvatore Fisichella, President of the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Promoting New Evangelization , has accepted an invitation from Australia’s Bishops to be the keynote speaker at the PROCLAIM 2012 conference on the new evangelisation.
PROCLAIM 2012, to be held from Thursday 9 to Saturday 11 August 2012, is about helping Catholics to respond to Pope Benedict XVI’s call to engage in the New Evangelization, to reach out with the message of Jesus to our people and our culture in new ways. It will be held at The Concourse, Chatswood.
Pope Benedict XVI named Archbishop Fisichella as the President of the newly formed Pontifical Council in October 2010, to lead the task of re-evangelising the secularized countries of the world. Archbishop Fisichella’s visit to Australia is just eight weeks before the crucial Synod on the New Evangelization in Rome.
At PROCLAIM 2012 Archbishop Fisichella will be joined here by a number of other excellent international and local Australian speakers who will share their expertise to encourage participants in their personal and community living and sharing of the faith.
PROCLAIM 2012 is being organised for the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference by the National Office for Evangelisation and Catholic Mission. It’s theme is based on Jesus’ words: “What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light, what you hear in whispers, proclaim from the housetops” (Mt 10:27).
It will showcase what is happening in evangelisation in the Catholic Church in Australia and show the way for the future by underpinning development of a long-term plan for evangelisation for Australia, which will be taken to the New Evangelisation Synod.
Bishop Peter Ingham, Bishops’ delegate for PROCLAIM 2012, says: “ I am personally looking forward to hearing what the Archbishop and others have to say and I invite Catholics from all over Australia to join me and hundreds of others as we prepare to proclaim from the housetops what we have heard from Jesus Christ.”
