St Vincent’s Hospital, Lismore
Celebrating 100 years of care
For over 100 years, St Vincent’s Lismore has provided holistic care to the community of NSW’s Northern Rivers. St Vincent’s mission is to provide health care to improve the life, comfort and functioning of individuals. Staff do this by listening to patients and their families and providing individualised care and experiences.

The hospital dates back to 1920, when the Sisters of Charity answered a request from Bishop John Joseph Carroll to establish a Catholic hospital. By December 1921, their vision became reality as the first patients were admitted to a two-story weatherboard residence on Dalley Street, Lismore. Over the decades, St Vincent’s has grown into a first class, contemporary private healthcare facility which today offers:
- Six full-service operating theatres;
- Surgical and medical wards;
- Endoscopy and oncology units;
- Palliative care and inpatient rehabilitation wards;
- A 15-bed day-surgery unit and eye clinic.
The hospital campus also features:
- Chapel – available 24/7 with weekly Masses;
- St Joseph’s Nursing Home, a 130-bed aged-care and dementia facility;
- Friends Child Care Centre;
- Hydrotherapy pool, day rehabilitation gym, radiology, pathology and pharmacy;
- Friends Cafe and Friends Tea Rooms;
- Friends shuttle service – available to pick you up from public parking areas to the front door of the hospital.
At the heart of our hospital are our exceptional staff, from dedicated housekeeping and catering teams to the leading medical and surgical specialists in northern NSW. St Vincent’s Lismore is more than just a hospital – it’s a community.
