Creativity and compassion come together for Diocesan Art Prize

On Saturday 31 October, our communities came together to celebrate the Diocesan Art Prize at Crowley Care in Ballina. Artists and their families gathered on the day to celebrate the art prize’s theme — The face of compassion.

Crowley Care, a ministry of St Francis Xavier Parish, Ballina, provided a beautiful backdrop to enjoy the artistic works and array of colours on display.

With more than 100 entries across five categories, Bishop Greg Homeming OCD said the Diocesan Art Prize has become a place where artists of all ages can connect their artistic talents with their faith.

“Art is a special gift. Through it we are able to express our inner feelings and understand what it is to be human,” Bishop Greg said. “This year the subject of the art competition is compassion. Artists have focused on their experience and need for compassion. This has encompassed religious, spiritual and intimate relationships. I congratulate all who have entered the competition and acknowledge such wide talent.”

The Diocesan Art Prize continues to grow, bringing together artists from across our parish communities to share their gifts and express their faith through art. This year’s entries offered many different interpretations of compassion, reflecting the depth of talent and creativity found across the diocese.

We are delighted to announce the winners of the respective categories. Each piece reflected the art prize’s theme — The face of compassion.
